Around our house, when someone mentions Sushi Go!, people are gathering around the table to play in minutes. After finding a copy of Sushi Go Party! at our local game shop, we knew that we had to pick it up.

Sushi Go Party! is a follow up to Game Wright Games fast paced sushi themed card game. Like the original, there is plenty of strategy and planning to out score your opponents. It’s appropriately named “Party” since it allows for 8 players to join in the sushi swapping fun.
Sushi Go!, is a party platter of mega maki, super sashimi, and endless edamame. You still earn points by picking winning sushi combos, but now you can customize each game by choosing a la carte from a menu of more than twenty delectable dishes. What’s more, up to eight players can join in on the sushi-feast. Let the good times roll! Sushi GO party is for sure the best of the franchise till now. Brand new online casinos 2019. Sushi Go Party! follows the same format as the original game of playing a single card and passing your hand to the left over the course of 3 rounds. One thing that we love about this card game is the speed of play in each round. Once players get used to the cards, everyone is making quick decisions on which card will give them an advantage over their opponents.
Don’t worry, if you haven’t played the original Sushi Go!, you will be just fine. The rule book does an excellent job explaining everything.
Game Wright has introduced a really nice bi-fold board with this edition of the game that is used to keep track of each players scores as well as serving as a “menu”. Players choose a colored token that resembles a soy sauce bottle that will indicate how many points they score after each round.
Before each game, the players set a menu consisting of a nigiri, a sushi roll, three appetizers, two special items and a dessert. There are more than 23 items to choose from which really benefits the replay-ability!Sushi Go Party Game
The new cards are a great addition that really shift the strategy when they’re paired with other items on the menu. The Tofu card only scores points if you have less than three. The Soy Sauce card rewards the player that collects an array of different cards while the Green Tea Ice Cream can be a game changer by awarding 12 points to any player that collects four of these cards.It’s a Sushi Party!
Our family is always looking for games that will involve everyone. One of the strengths of Sushi Go Party! is that it allows up to 8 players to join in the fun. With the additional players, the game can get cutthroat and offers a real challenge for even the most seasoned player.
In between each round, additional dessert cards are shuffled into the deck. This is really our only complaint with this game. The original Sushi Go! is a game that is fast paced from start to finish and it takes only seconds to deal new cards between rounds. Adding cards, giving a proper shuffle and re-dealing after each round is a little clunky and can add an additional 5 minutes to the overall game. This probably won’t matter as we spend more time playing the game, but it’s worth mentioning for all those who love the speed of the original game.The Sushi Lover in us all
Between the adorable card art and the simplicity of play, it’s hard not to love Sushi Go Party! (or the original Sushi Go!). The game is such a staple in our house that our kids are always asking us if they can teach our guests how to play. This is a great addition to any family game library and is accessible to kids over the age of 7 years old.
Over the Father’s Day weekend I was able to introduce my board game skeptical Dad to this game. It was a strong endorsement when he said “That game was actually pretty good.” It may not sound like much, but when it comes to board games, this is the equivalent to an “A” for him.
Adding another party game to the family gaming library was a huge win. Sushi Go Party! is proof that Game Wright Games is listening to their audience and creating great family games.

If I ever want to remember the value of FLGSs (Friendly Local Game Stores) as opposed to the Amazons of the world, I think of Sushi Go Party.
I was up the street at the nearest FLGS to me (a great store!) and about to buy Sushi Go for a party I was hosting. “Oh, get Sushi Go Party. Tons more options. It’s like $10 more but it’s so much better,” said the owner/clerk. Not wanting to seem ungrateful, and also having never gotten such a specific, unambiguous recommendation, I took his advice.
I am thankful for that fact. I was responsible for introducing the game to my gaming club, and it caught on like wildfire. I rarely bring my copy to our large meetups anymore, but rare is the week where there isn’t a copy on the communal game table.
This “pick & pass,” set collection card game, in the vein of 7 Wonders, is among a small pile of games I consider to be best in class for their particular type of game. Now to define the type (beyond mechanics and theme) and identify why it succeeds…One to Many – The Design of Sushi Go Party
Sushi Go Party is a master class in getting a lot from a little. The premise and mechanics are identical regardless of which cards you choose. Anyone can understand it: pick a card, play a card, pass cards, repeat, then score points when the cards run out. The only variance is how the cards score points.Sushi Go Game Online
The nigiri is just worth a static number of points. Type X and Type Y are five points for getting two and 10 points for getting three, respectively. Simplicity itself, but something else is going on here. The game is teaching you the more exotic card combos with the starter cards. The concepts that the game riffs on in its more advanced configurations will be familiar to anyone who has played with the “starter” cards, and after you’ve played it once or twice, there are generally only 1-2 card types that take even a moment to absorb into your strategy.
So it’s simple, and thus at risk of becoming stale, right? Well…
The robust number of card types available, and the myriad ways they can be combined for slightly or significantly different configurations, provide ample variance even for regular gamers who play this game numerous times.
So it’s a master class in creating staggering variance from an absurdly simple premise. In this regard, it has few peers within the hobby.Pick, Pass, Rinse, Repeat – Pick & Pass Card Games
Ok, sure, there’s some embellishment above. A game this simple isn’t going to be endlessly entertaining. While the theoretical number of permutations is functionally infinite, the game will produce the same type of experience in many of its plays. Only 2-3 of the more abstruse card abilities will produce sessions that feel markedly different from the norm. These are undeniably cool, but also quirky in ways that feel a bit more rough than the comparatively intuitive and elegant starter cards (and others like them).Sushi Go Party Online
I’ve gotten to the point where I try to mix and match card abilities in ways that don’t quite make sense or are just a bit weird compared to the “norm.” I personally enjoy this experimentation, but it’s not always the smoothest gameplay for the rest of the table.Alone Together? It Depends
I enjoy personal interaction in games. Certain cards in Sushi Go Party (the notorious Miso Soup foremost among them) create a sense of togetherness. You can also deny the player next to you from getting a valuable card or two, and the endgame dessert scoring demands that you pay attention to everyone’s long-term strategies. Still, some of the game can be played with myopic blinders on.
It’s a small, quick game, though. If I can cite 3-4 ways in which interaction is created, as I did above, it means there are moments enough to satiate social gamers, even if your neighbors’ cards won’t always demand your attention.Mmm, Sushi
Set your expectations accordingly, I guess. This isn’t high strategy. Heck, it’s not even 7 Wonders in terms of depth. But it’s more approachable than 7 Wonders, which itself is a reasonable on-ramp to several ideas that are prominent in modern card games.Sushi Go
